The Lyrics

This is probably one of the nerdiest submissions to amiright. Those who don't know what Pi is probably haven't attended high school, however there are more obscure references in here that many people might not know or would rather forget from the traumatic time they had in Algebra I or trig. I don't want to explain a joke because it would ruin it, so I'm going to let you loose on the Internet to find out why this song is funny. The key terms are: transcendental number, irrational number, Minkowski, Euler, Euler equation, the derivative of sine, Archimedes, pi*r^2, Einstein field equations. Come to the think of it I don't know if the nerdiness will impede it from getting into this web site, but it's worth a try. The pacing of the song is a little off but it's the best I can do with the subject matter.
Hey Pi, you're not so bad
Transcendental and not a ratio
Remember you ain't not equal to three
Minkowski thinks you make math better.

Hey Pi, don't be afraid
You were made to be in equations
The minute you're found by math freaks in Greece
When Archimedes drew his circles.

And any time you feel the pain, hey Pi, refrain
Don't worry you irrational number
Well don't you know that sine relies on you my dude
By making his f() prime equal cosine.

Hey Pi, don't let math down
You're a part of, Euler's equation
Remember, that Pi-r-squared is a piece
Of sage knowledge you made math better.

So let it out and let it in, hey Pi, begin
You're waiting for Einstein to pick you up
And relativity, for you, hey, Pi
Would not have started without you in equations.

Hey Pi, you're not so bad
Transcendental and not a ratio
Remember you ain't not equal to three
Minkowski thinks you make math better.

Nothing is too nerdy for Amiright! Oops, I meant to give you 455.

Yes, you vastly underestimate the crowd here. Check Double E's paean to the natural log, "e": http://www.amiright.com/parody/80s/tommytutone21.shtml, and his American Pie parody, "Mathematical Pi": http://www.amiright.com/parody/60s/donmclean0.shtml, for example. Or TJC's parody of "These Boots Are Made For Walking", entitled "Disputes With Stephen Hawking": http://www.amiright.com/parody/70s/nancysinatra1.shtml

Anyway, welcome to Amiright. Nice parody, tweak the pacing a bit, and bring on the geek stuff. 455.

A fine effort here... love the erudition tradition in 'geek' submissions!

The nerdy stuff is very good, but what's with "ain't not"?

I don't usually post on my own song, but I'll do it to explain some decisions I made while writing the parody. Basically the phrase "ain't not" is to help wit the pacing. In the original song the verse is "Remember to let her into your heart." I originally replaced this with "Remember you are not equal to three." However, this does not pace well since the the stress lands on "not" instead of "are", and it sounds a little awkward to artificially put the stress on "are." However, "ain't" is naturally articulated with heavy stress so that's why I used it. Naturally it has to be followed by "not" in order to keep the original pacing, however, I thought a double negative is worth the price of this minor detail.

LV, thanks for the explanation. I still think I might have worded it differently, but I appreciate that line a lot more now.

How 'bout, "Remember that you're not equal to three"? ... natural stress on "you're".

In formal English, the word "that" would actually be required: "Remember that you ain't not..." Of course, we customarily omit the "that" in informal speaking and writing, but using it can solve a lot of pacing jams. Regards, TT
