The Lyrics

Don't we all just love to hear some gal or guy chatting loudly away on their cell phone--in a public place--about their plans for the day, their favorite mouthwash, their outlook on life in general, etc, etc? I know I just can't get enough!
Well she got her daddy's phone and she's yapping at the hamburger stand now,
Seems she forgot what she ordered, doesn't matter, laughing loud as she can now,
And with her yammering blather goes yakking just as fast as she can now,
And she will YAP, YAP, YAP! till her daddy throws the cell phone away--
**(echo: yap, yap, yap till her daddy throws the cell phone away..)

Well we all can't stand her 'cause she walks, looks and talks like a twit now,
**(echo: talks like a twit, a most bona-fide twiiit..)
Just like a hog-calling yell-off and she's just flipped another big fit now,
**(echo: flipped a big fit, another big fiiit..)
And with the ringer amped up, she answers, "Hey--ya hear that super fine hit now?!"--
**(echo: what a super fine hit, a mighty fine hiiit..)
And she will YAP, YAP, YAP! till her daddy throws the cell phone away--
**(echo: yap yap yap till her daddy throws the cell phone away..)

{instrumental break}

Ah well you knew all along that everybody's thinkin' you're the hot chick now,
**(echo: thinkin' you're the hot chick, the very hot chiiick..)
And not the clueless ignoramus on the phone with a fat head so thick now,
**(echo: fat head so thick, so empty and thiiick..)
But dad will rip that phone away and throw it through a window pane like a brick now,
**(echo: through a pane like a brick, a most worthy briiick..)
And you won't YAP, YAP, YAP! once your daddy throws the cell phone a-way-ay-ay--
**(echo: yap yap yap once your daddy throws the cell phone a-way-ay-ay,,yap yap..)

I feel your pain. Cells can be so annoying. Well done. I'm fiving this one.
Johnny D - March 28, 2004 - Report this comment
And I'll vote five-five-five for this clever piece of writing today!
Guy - March 28, 2004 - Report this comment
Yeah - It would be a 555 exchange number now wouldn't it?
Jack Wilson - March 28, 2004 - Report this comment
Great job! 555

This is especially annoying at restaurants. I know that people talk at restaurants anyway, but at least if it were two people talking at a table, you could hear both sides of the conversation. 5-5-5
Rick D - March 28, 2004 - Report this comment
My experience is that when two people are talking in places, it's a low rumble of ordinary conversation. When one one of those people gets a call. you can SUDDENLY HEAR EVERY FRICKIN' WORD.
Jan Unwin - March 28, 2004 - Report this comment
Rick, I know...it's like CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW?
Steve K. - March 29, 2004 - Report this comment
Perfect way to bring this one up-to-date.
Adagio - March 29, 2004 - Report this comment
It was a FUN parody on cells! 5's :D

To Guy, Johnny, Jack, Jan, Rick, Steve, and Adagio: Thanks folks for your kind feedback on my first parody to this site. Nice to hear from some of the veterans! BTW, I made it a point to read some of the many pieces you have all done and got some good laughs. Keep 'em coming! And kudos to any and all involved with the creation and maintainance of this clever and entertaining site.

Always like reading parodies to songs I've covered: this one's excellent - especially the scansion of bits like the "clueless ignoramus with a fat head so thick, now". If this is a first parody, Rod, it's a superb start - but ISTM that you've been doing this for a while... Am I right?
Agrimorfee - March 30, 2004 - Report this comment
I can hear it now, and would love to hear it later! 555

Hi, Phil, thanks for your comments, too. Just read a couple of yours, including Rum Rum Rum, a genuine classic. I Loved it! In answer to your question, this is in fact a first parody per se, but I've always enjoyed writing crazy letters, memos etc to friends, family, and folks I do (monkey) business with. Since this site seems to be mellow and supportive, the words seemed to flow easily. Also, I play (hack at) a little guitar and bass, which might help with phrasing. My next one will probably stink!
Rod Worden - March 30, 2004 - Report this comment
Thanks A G. One of my new "personal best loved objects" happens to be a parody of the same name. It cracked me up! I'd like to see more parodies of this type on this site. Any recommendations?
Agrimorfee - March 30, 2004 - Report this comment
"of this type..." --meaning parodies of Broadway shows, or purely clever parodies like mine? ;)
Tim Hall - March 30, 2004 - Report this comment
Great job on the song. It brought back memories of a boss I recently had who always answered his cell phone in the middle of business meetings, which I thought was quite rude. Shameless plug: my parody of My Guitar Gently Weeps titled And A Cell Phone Loudly Beeps
Phil Alexander - March 30, 2004 - Report this comment
Rod, I think you're right about playing a bit helping with pacing (especially if you're used to singing the songs, too) - I'm a guitarist, too (albeit not a very good one), and it certainly helps me... unfortunately I'm not as good as Rick, in that I have to learn to play things, can't just pick up and run with a new song (and most of my parodies are too difficult for me ;-) ). Anyway, this is a really friendly site to post parodies, and there's a huge amount of really rather exceptional talent, so please do stick around and add to it.
Rod - March 30, 2004 - Report this comment
(To A G) No, not necessarily Broadway shows, just any well known song--especially a sappy one, with an unmistakable beat--that can be/has already been mangled in the offbeat (intended) and hilarious way that you did yours. Yours is even funnier when you attempt to sing it! (Btw, are you current on your meds?) harhar..

Thanks Royce, I'll be looking for some of yours, bud.
John Jenkins - April 03, 2004 - Report this comment
Very good target for a parody, well aimed, and well delivered. Also, Royce is a woman, so you might not want to refer to her as bud.
Rod - April 03, 2004 - Report this comment
Thanks John! Actually, bud was short for 'rosebud' or 'budding flower of the desert', I believe, yes that's it.. (Hi Royce, no offense intended!)
Claude Prez - April 03, 2004 - Report this comment
Well done; it's always good to be reminded that not every parody title has to rhyme with the original to work well.
Mari D - April 04, 2004 - Report this comment
I didn't know that you knew my teenage stepdaughter and wrote a parody about her! My husband (Rick D) said to check out the new writer on the site and I'm glad that I did. Keep up the good work!

LOL, Rod. This is one of my biggest pet peeves! I'm scared to vote because I don't want to get rid of your 21, so I'll just give you your 5's here. Great job!

You made a great great great parody here. You hit the nail on the HEAD. Cell phone yackers act like they own the road. It's also very annoying in restaurants. "Hello? Hawh? Hawh? My Gahhhwwwddd!" Not only can I hear the geeky Verison man now (and always) but if he don't quit flapping his chops and jacking that BS I'm gonna take his cell phone and shove it up him where the sun don't shine! Your parody deserves more than 5s, it deserves 50s! Koo-does!
