The Lyrics
Another song of maritime mishap rewritten. I'm surprised no one else got to this one before me. Most people are familiar with the Beach Boys arrangement. It can also be sung as a calypso song. If you go with the Beach Boys, you'll have to supply your own echo effects.
We sailed on the Edmund Fitz
With tons of taconite bits
Routine trip, only take a couple of days
That November night
With safety in sight
The big ship broke up
A parting of ways
Down goes the Edmund Fitz
She's taken some powerful hits
Waves broke over the rails as we plowed through the foam
The lightning is bright
The cold starts to bite
The Fitz is listing
We'll never get home
The hull was splitting in two
And when our supper was due
Cook told the sailors that food would just have to wait
Too nervous to eat
Deck tilts neath our feet
Can't launch the lifeboat
We've waited too late
Send out the S.O.S.
The Edmund Fitz in distress
