The Lyrics

I like ol' rat. Dig?
It's a smelly old rat from Pasadena. (1)

It's a smelly old rat from Pasadena.
Slammin'gears, slammin' gears, get up and go!
Looks real dirty when he comes to see ya,
Slammin'gears, slammin' gears, get up and go!
But he's got enough equipment in his huge garage, (2)
He runs a destroked Hemi from a NASCAR Dodge. (3)

And everything out there is said to be cleaner,
Than that smelly old rat from Pasadena,
But he'll outrun anything 'cept a bat from hell,
'Cause the fuel in his tank comes from JPL! (4)

It's a smelly old rat from Pasadena...

If he comes on the street don't think to abuse him,
Out of my way, Out of my way, you drive too slow!
No matter what he's running, you cannot lose him,
Out of my way, Out of my way, you drive too slow!
That rat might draw flies from miles around,
Ain't no one catching him if he puts his foot down!

The latest one to try him was this mean ol' witch, (5)
She had a pro-street doorslammer cause she was rich,
She left the line, her wheels a foot in the air,
Rat nailed the throttle, and left her sitting there.

A smelly old rat from Pasadena

(Machine-shop noises)
Titanium, Inconel, 300-M! (6)
(Sound of an engine turning 12,000 rpm on the dyno. It makes more noise
than a space shuttle launch due to its' exotic fuel and *more-exotic* design.)
Rocket fuel, rocket fuel, light those slicks!
The talk about that rodent is surely jive,
Can't read or write, but he sure can drive! (7)

And everything out there is said to be cleaner,
Than that smelly old rat from Pasadena,
But he'll outrun anything 'cept a bat from hell,
'Cause the fuel in his tank comes from JPL!

A smelly old rat from Pasadena

Slammin'gears, slammin' gears, get up and go!
Out of my way, Out of my way, you drive too slow!
Slammin'gears, slammin' gears, get up and go!
Out of my way, Out of my way, you drive too slow!
1) Rat Fink. 2) More equipment in his huge shop than Petty Enterprises and the late Smokey Yunick's shop put together. If he needs a part, he can make it from scratch - and commonly does. 3) a drastically updated late sixties stock-car engine. Rat's reworked the engine so extensively that it now looks like something that belongs at NASA - and it makes almost as much power as a Saturn-V's engines. 4) Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Located in Pasadena. Rat graduated from Cal Tech and then became a tool-and-die maker because no one wanted to hire him as a rocket scientist. 5) 'Granny' from the original song. Her stocks grew faster than a mushroom cloud, she became smelly rich and got a horrible attitude - and she tossed that Dodge into a custom shop, and now it's a lot lighter and a whole lot faster. 6) Metals and alloys used extensively in aerospace (and sometimes, in racing equipment) 7) Rat commonly puts on an act so everyone *thinks* he's dumb so they'll try for him. He's anything *but* dumb - anyone who can get 2369 out of a possible of 1600 on an SAT is *not* dumb. (no, not a computing error. Rat's *that* smart.)
