"The Girl From Ipanema"

Original Performer:

Parody Song Title:

"The Pope From Argentina"

Parody Written by:

Rex Ungericht

The Lyrics

In a twist so unexpected
The guy from Argentina's elected
The job was offered, the answer proffered was - si

Though he'd rather keep it humble
He has to wear the white ensemble
And when he passes, the Cath'lic masses say - whee

Oh, South American pontiff
What kind of changes are coming
You're now the Vatican's sheriff
Will you make it the new policy
That meals must include mate* tea

Tell me now, what were the chances
That there would be a pope named Francis
He's moving slowly; he's old, but he's holy - see?

* pronounced mah-tay, a popular Argentinian drink

Nice rendition. It would nice to do this in original Portuguese - or Spanish.

@SV: If you liked it, why did you skip voting? I'm the first, with 5s.
Unlike some other posts on this topic, Rex avoids nasty comments about others in the Catholic heirarchy, focuses on the good qualities of the new leader & echos TOS's awe-struck watchers.

Rex - Gentle take on the topic, refresingly devoid of attack. Fine choice of original song. ;D

Nicely paced and rhymed. Like the "holy, see" ending. I was surprised there had never been a Pope named Francis before.

As BJM: funny, singalongable and inoffensive. As Patrick: 'Holy, see' is a standout. I often run through the song twice with a different set of subs if it's short like this, and I wish you'd given us a double helping. Then again, there's nought wrong with leaving your readership hungry for more. 555

Thanks Susanna, Barry, OMR, Patrick, and Lifeliver! (LL- I would have made this longer but I wanted to get it published quickly.)

Creative and appealing with no specious negativity. This piece illustrates that the AIR ratings should be expanded to include "Originality". You get Fives for all 4 categories!.

I won't jump on the "no negativity" bandwagon. There is nothing wrong with a little negativity, but anyway well done Rex (,'-p)
