The Lyrics
In 2 Samuel 7, God establishes His Covenant with King David. Without placing any further obligation for David to perform anything in any capacity, God pledges an eternal dynasty to David's Lineage (2 Samuel 7:15-16), The Hebrew word "chesed" in verse 15 is translated "mercy" in King James, but it is often translated "steadfast love." God's chesed was David's guarantee that his "throne would be established forever."... This so impressed David that, beginning in chapter 9, he talked about chesed to anyone who would listen - starting with Saul's grandson, the single person then alive who could make a usurpation against David's kingdom... "Chesed" love is a higher form of love than the more familiar New Testament "Agape."
