I heard this song from La Gaga and - to my complete shock - really liked it! Great stomping melody, pretty good lyrics... could it be that I was finally converting to her stuff? And then I saw the accompanying video...
What. The. HECK...? (And I didn't really think 'heck' either...)
Up until now I'd always kind of given her the benefit of the doubt regarding whether she just used random sexy stuff to be freaky, hoping that there really was actually some sort of intelligent message behind it somewhere. But this video is so beyond random that it made me reconsider that view, and that made me a bit sad. This parody is the result.

WHO KNOWS what Lady GAG will vomit up next??? Nice one!
As a Lady GaGa fan I can tell you why. Her last video after acclaimed "Born This Way" and controversial "Judas" was the critically panned "The Edge of Glory" which was looked upon as nothing special... so Stefani probably went the complete other direction. "You and I" is her most radical video yet and looks like several intermeshing relationships presented in GaGa's bizarre style. I had hoped that she would do "Marry the Night", "Scheisse", or "Hair" instead!!! Oh well, off to the next bizarre presentation... which may well be a Xmas song since she will be doing the Barneys' Christmas window in NY- gotta see that!!! Despite anything she does, GaGa is always in demand!!!
She certainly is, Rob! I don't dislike the woman, but I found the message I (eventually) got from this particular video disturbed me; it seems to be saying "No matter how appallingly this guy treats me, the sex is so good I just can't get enough of him." Is that a good message to be sending out to her young, impressionable female fans? I don't think so. Having seen evidence in interviews with Lady Gaga in the past that show she is actually quite intelligent and not just some airheaded bimbo, so I find it hard to believe that she really does want to be portrayed as some doe-eyed sexual masochist. A bunch of PR execs with frustrated porn director ambitions, however... which is what led me to suspect that she's being manipulated and exploited by them more than the public realise - hence the parody. She certainly wouldn't be the only one; you could equally point the finger at Katy Perry and Rihanna too. At least Lady Gaga has that aura of intelligence that the other two sorely lack.
Stefani graduated NYU and is an excellent pianist. She has always stated that her music is the eternal conflict between good and evil. She wants to be a good girl but tends to lead bad girl. "Judas" lyrics, "Jesus is my virtue, but Judas is the demon I cling to, I cling to". If you ever meet her in person, she is nice, professional, soft-spoken, and intelligent. But internally, she is conflicted and that comes out in her music...
