Nuclear weapons can be used in another devastating way that scientists first investigated in the late 1940s and into the 1950s. Concerned with Gamma ray radiation, it was speculated that the Bomb might actually cause male sterility. While nuclear radiation can cause severe birth defects, it so far cannot destroy reproduction completely. But a single large event with a Megabomb in the 100s of MTs "might" produce a world wave of rays that could sterilize the more vunerable male genitalia. The only way to avoid that radiation castration would be to have been in a lead-lined room like a vault or to have been wearing a graphite suit in a deep shelter. If this sounds ridiculous, it is not. The Israelis for decades have been trying to develop an Arab Bomb that uses Arab genetic markers to kill them but not others! A neutron bomb for gene-targets! The US and Britain have also tried to make Green Bombs capable of targeting marijuana and opium w/o harming anything else! I got this topic from Pat Frank's 1946 book "Mr. Adam" about a lone man who could be a father after a tremendous nuke explosion wipes out the state of Mississippi and sends unknown rays globally that sterilize all men except Mr. Adam who was in a lead mine deep underground. The S-Bomb (Sterility Bomb) could theoretically be developed to end mankind, thus becoming the Omega Bomb. Food for thought... and fun to write!!!
