Whether air racing, car racing, boat racing, boxing, cage fighting, bullfighting. etc... the spectators come for two things- to witness a competition but also to witness tragedy. They gasp and scream and even cry when someone dies but weren't they all excited when the cars pile up, the plane crashes, the boat disintegrates, the boxer has his brains beat out, the cage fighters collapses, and the bullfighter gets gored??? the loss of Dan Wheldon IS a tragedy but a 100% preventable one. And he and the fans knew the risks of Indy racing. I am not putting the sports nor the competitors down and certainly not poking fun at Wheldon's death, just adding commentary over these events. What do people EXPECT to happen on a crowded track at speeds of 200+ mph. 34 cars were in this event and even Wheldon said beforehand that ANYTHING could happen with that many cars out competing. He just didn't know it would cost him his life this time out. That is SAD...
