The Lyrics

Since it's been on the mind of most of the people of Europe just a wee bit for a while, I thought I'd write this about the current financial meltdown in the eurozone - and this OS fitted the mood perfectly.
(I've put a few refs in for those outside the UK - just in case.)

Which of the countries is needing the most
We’re all up the creek, the economy’s toast
All caught in the race to smash and grab
And putting the interest on the tab
‘Cause all the real-life cash is gone

We set up a fund but the cashflow was thin
We all borrowed more so that we could chip in
But now there is not much left at all
The deficit’s big, the pot is small
I think we’ll need another one

‘Cause you got a bad debt, well bully for you
You’ll just have to go to the back of the queue
‘Cause everyone wants to get on the list
The Greeks are the worst, they’re like Oliver Twist
We’re all in bad debt, in financial pain
There’s Italy, Portugal, Ireland and Spain
They’re all in bad debt
We’re all in bad debt

The UK is counting up the cost
Even Ocean Finance* said “get lost”
So chew on that, Dave Cameron!

We’re all in bad debt, we’re screwed to the max
The people just riot when we put up the tax
Unless they’re in Greece, I think that you’ll find
If they just forget Papandreou** don’t mind
How bad is their debt? The data’s a mess
Accountants don’t know so they made a wild guess
And said “it’s bad debt
Ooooh… bad debt.”

So while the euro goes down the pan and the bailiffs wait outside
We all point fingers, passing the buck and won’t admit everybody lied
‘Cause we got pride… yeah yeah yeah yeah….

How many Big Issues*** can we sell the Chinese?
(Lend us a quid…)
Will they help us out if we get on our knees?

Tell them we’re in bad debt, we’ve drained the cash cup
Get on their good side, maybe butter them up
“We like what you’ve done, from what we can tell
You’ve really come on and you’ve done really well
So turn our bad debt from minus to plus
And lend us some notes, invest in us
And all our bad debt
We have some bad debt”

Have some bad debt….
Have our bad debt….
* - A UK finance company, well-known for lending money to... just about anyone really.
** - Greek Prime Minister. It emerged during an audit of Greece's finances (after their second bailout from the funds put aside by various countries for the purpose) that the Greek government had been.... kind of neglecting to collect taxes from the population for a while. Which goes some way to explain the huge kick-off that ensued amongst the general public when the officials announced they were going to start doing it again. Before swiftly backtracking and looking shifty when the rest of Europe asked them "You ARE going to start taxing your people again, aren't you?"
*** - A charity-sponsored magazine sold on street corners, usually by homeless people to make a little money for food and shelter.

How true Wendy-555!!! We all seem to be connected and the markets keep moving down on any bad financial news. AFAIK, Germany and France are tired of trying to prop up Europe's losers. I don't blame AM for not wanting to bail out these nations.
