The Lyrics

The AGO S.I was the first dedicated Anti-Tank plane in the world. Ordered in 1918, progress was slow and of the two worked on, only one flew in 1919 after WW1. The Allied Control Commission ordered the aircraft destroyed, so all effort went for nothing. the armored biplane would have had twin armored hoods for the pilot and gunner of up to 7mm. It would either have twin Spandaus up front or a single to the rear also operated by the gunner. The gunner would be shielded behind the pilot with a 20mm Becker cannon aiming down through the floor to hit tanks and strafe trenches. It was powered by a BuS III engine of 260 hp due to the weight of the armor. No performance numbers available. The Germans built the plane b/c their late tanks (A7Vs and a few LKs) were not equal to the British Mks nor French types built in number. The Germans proposed a giant K-wagen and a modern tank type Oberschlesian... but they were too late.
Ja, Ja
First Schlactflugzeug!
German AGO S.I to prove, battle
Denied!

(AGO, AGO S.I)
Coming late day, in 1918
Germans still build you (For debut)
And even though the war is now through (nein!)
Ja, they built two (For debut)

Armored, armored biplane
It's kinda heav-y
And even though they might not make it
They gotta have it (Tanks to shoot)

Engine was loud
BuS III, 2-60 hp
Downward aimed Becker
With Spandau to the rear

AGO S.I flies later
Just one AGO S.I flies later
Just one AGO S.I flies later
Just one AGO, AGO S.I

AGO S.I flies later
Just one AGO S.I flies later
Just one AGO S.I flies later
Just one AGO, AGO S.I

Armored hoods, 7mm bulk-up
They didn't give up (yeah, it's true)
Made for anti-tank at-tack
Make up for German tank slack (A7V doomed)

Ordered in 1918
Action it did not see
All that work worthless
In the end junked it (it too was doomed)

Engine was loud
BuS III, 2-60 hp
Downward aimed Becker
With Spandau to the rear

AGO S.I flies later
Just one AGO S.I flies later
Just one AGO S.I flies later
Just one AGO, AGO S.I

AGO S.I flies later
Just one AGO S.I flies later
Just one AGO S.I flies later
Just one AGO, AGO S.I

Schlachtflugzeug
Made to shock (Allied troops)

Was bulky, bettin' they'd be better off with twin crew
In the floor, 20 mil shooting at many Mks* and the Chars** too
Plane would strike a blow, but it really, really was doubtful
Germans were outnumbered as the Allied arms reached a mass-flow

The A7V, too big of wagen proved a lesson
Crewed by 18, twin engines, 6 MGs + a 57 (mm)!!!
Only 20 were built and with the design they kept on messin'
It was slow, had bad tracks, had the German crews protestin'

Needed a better weapon, either to use it or start prayin'
They developed it so slow, parts and trials so oft delayin'
It was an expensive toy, with a big, big gun
They needed 100s Ja, but only built the one***
Gave up, yup!!!

AGO, AGO S.I
AGO, AGO S.I

Engine was loud
BuS III, 2-60 hp
Downward aimed Becker
With Spandau to the rear

AGO S.I flies later
Just one AGO S.I flies later
Just one AGO S.I flies later
Just one AGO, AGO S.I

AGO S.I flies later
Just one AGO S.I flies later
Just one AGO S.I flies later
Just one AGO, AGO S.I

AGO S.I flies later
Just one AGO S.I flies later
Just one AGO S.I flies later
Just one AGO, AGO S.I

AGO S.I flies later
Just one AGO S.I flies later
Just one AGO S.I flies later
Just one AGO, AGO S.I

1919

[ACC orders that it be broken up]
* Mks IV-V most often encountered
** mostly Renault types
*** two were under construction in 1918

Sorry, but I can only locate one tiny pic of one of the two aircraft. In it, it looks like the Becker 20mm cannon is in a pod on the port upper wing:

Some artwork for the AGO S.I. From an outdated source, it does NOT show the pilot armored hood and the MG to the rear is wrong. It had 2x Spandaus facing forward. Do not know if the cut-out in fuselage is artistic or was there for real to help cool the Becker 20mm. There are only a few photos of these aircraft that exist. The 260 hp I mention in the lyrics is the second engined S.I, the first had 150 hp. It needed the upgrade b/c of the weight of the machine when all the armor was installed and the cannon!
