The Lyrics

We get it on, every night,
When the stars are bright, and the mood is right,
It's a purrfect scene, oh, so tight,
Kitten in the moonlight, such a sight.

Kitten in the moonlight, oh, so fine,
Chasing fireflies, in the pale moonshine,
With your whiskers aglow, and your tail held high,
Kitten in the moonlight, let's reach for the sky.

You chase your tail, in a playful race,
With grace and charm, you set the pace,
In your eyes, I see a secret place,
Kitten in the moonlight, our private embrace.

Kitten in the moonlight, oh, so fine,
Chasing fireflies, in the pale moonshine,
With your whiskers aglow, and your tail held high,
Kitten in the moonlight, let's reach for the sky.

Underneath the stars, we prowl and play,
In the cool night air, we dance and sway,
With every purr, you steal my heart away,
Kitten in the moonlight, forever we'll stay.

As the night goes on, and the world's asleep,
You and I, our secrets, we'll keep,
In the moon's soft glow, our love runs deep,
Kitten in the moonlight, a bond we'll always keep.

Kitten in the moonlight, oh, so fine,
Chasing fireflies, in the pale moonshine,
With your whiskers aglow, and your tail held high,
Kitten in the moonlight, let's reach for the sky.

So, my little feline, with fur so bright,
In the tranquil night, you're my guiding light,
With every step, in our moonlit flight,
Kitten in the moonlight, our love takes flight.

This same title, “Dancing in the Moonlight”, was used for a 1934 song written by Gus Kahn & Walter Donaldson, and was performed by Ben Pollack that same year. His version is extremely easy to parody: just find a six-syllable phrase, (e.g., “Stay inside this weekend” or “A.I. makes your life right”) and you have a theme to use for the rest of the parody. Also, it’s in the ABAB form. What I would suggest you to do is to try this parody theme again, but use the original Ben Pollack recording as your guide. You will be surprised how easy that one is to parody. I rank that one as the absolute easiest to parody correctly, followed by “Rhythm Steps” by Herbie Kay. The most difficult ones are “I’m In Love” by Jay Randell, and “The Beat Of My Heart”, also by Ben Pollack.
