Parody Song Title:

"(Is This The Way To) Alton Towers"

Parody Written by:

Dumb Ass Kid

The Lyrics

Sha la la la la la la la
Sha la la la la la la la
Sha la la la la la la la

At 6 in the mornin'
While the rest of the street is still yawnin'
How i long to be there
Where the rides are waiting for me there

Every other theme park
Where i've been before
Ain't as half as thrilling
As where we're headed for

Is this the way to Alton Towers?
It's so exciting it makes me cower
On our way to Alton Towers
Where the rides all wait for me
Tell us the way to Alton Towers
I've got nails and i've wet my trousers
Getting close to Alton Towers
Where the rides wait patiently

Sha la la la la la la la
Sha la la la la la la la
Sha la la la la la la la
Rides are what i long to see

There's some distant screamin'
It's exactly as i've been dreamin'
Buy some cotton candy
And this sick bag's really handy

Just beyond the hilltops
There's a magic place
Everybody's laughing
A smile fills up my face

Is this the way to Alton Towers?
Chew so much my gum's gone sour
Wet my pants for Alton Towers
Where memories will wait for me
Show us the way to Alton Towers
I've been in this car 5 hours
Travel sick for Alton Towers
And all the rides i want to see

Sha la la la la la la la
Sha la la la la la la la
Sha la la la la la la la
I'll ride those rides so gleefully

Sha la la la la la la la
Sha la la la la la la la
Sha la la la la la la la
Where excitement waits for me

(Sha la la la la la la la until fade)

NOTE: I have made a slight typing error. In the first chorus, where it says "I've got nails and i've wet my trousers" it should read: "I've got no nails and i've wet my trousers". Sorry, but i was tired when writing this! Any other mistakes, let me know...

Sorry, DKTOS, but typos happen DAK, don't worry about em too much. I've never heard of Alton Towers, but a tribute to an amusment park is definately cool. I will see if I can get TOS to hear this and come back and vote. :)

Nice one, Red Ant. The original is currently number one over here in the UK, so it shouldn't be too hard to find. Or, you could look up the original from way back in the 60s...it reached number 18
Red Ant - March 24, 2005 - Report this comment
I noticed TOS was from the 60's , yet you list it in the 2000s. Has this been remade or re-released?

The song was reissued this year for Comic Relief, with a promo video featuring Peter Kay, who used the song in his 'Phoenix Nights' series. Airplay on Stuart Maconie and Johnnie Walker's Radio 2 shows led to Universal reissuing the song, and a Tony Christie anthology which has since gone platinum.

Nicely explained, Pickle. And thanx 2 everyone who voted/left a comment

Red Ant, was it you who gave it 555? I'm just interested to know. if you did - thanx!
Red Ant - March 24, 2005 - Report this comment
No, I didn't give the 555 because I DKTOS. I'll try to get some lyrics downloaded to see how this fares against TOS. PS--On my parody of California Dreamin' ( Man this turd is steamin' ), did you give me 535 or no vote? You didn't say, but if you did thanks for not tanking the pacing because of the subject. If you didn't vote, thats ok too, just curious. :)
Dumb Ass Kid - March 25, 2005 - Report this comment
Yeah, i think i did. If i don't find a song funny, none of the other stats are affected because sometimes funny songs can have crap pacings, and vice-versa. Humour does sometimes affect the overall mark, though
Tania - March 25, 2005 - Report this comment
Sorry, i can't rate it cos i've never heard of this song before.
Red Ant - March 27, 2005 - Report this comment
Just heard TOS, which I really didn't like that much, but the pacing while not a 5 is bettter than a 4, so you get a 5 there. 5 Funny and 5 overall.

Thanx to everybody who's left a comment, especially you, Red Ant for going out of your way to vote for it (greatly appreciated!). At first, I was a little disappointed that people weren't voting for it 'cause I felt that it was a good parody, but the responses i've got from everybody are truly overwhelming! Thanx again!..

PS-- Another little tip. Many people ( like myself ) have no idea what Alton Towers is. A better way ( IMHO ) would have been to leave the name Amarillo a TOSs name, and name your parody Alton Towers ( Amusement Park ). That *MAY* have gotten some more attention, as alot of people like amusement parks ( matter of fact I have 2 ( yes two ) within WALKING distance of my house ). PSS- You are now in the top ten on authors list, and I have checked them all out, and you have already gotten on perfect 555 scoring ( this ), along with a parody with 6 votes, which is better than what I got when I started ( Feb 20th was my first post ). PSSS- You know that you are allowed to vote once on your own parodies don't you? ( after all, you write them, vote them! ) I sometimes do this ( usually after many others have voted ), and not always 555 either, because they are NOT all 555 ( I have even given myself a 334 before, but thats about as low as I have voted ). It's generally frowned upon to rate your own parodies, but I usually get atleast a 3 person concensus ( from friends and family ) on my parody before I vote it. Just don't vote everything you write 555, because they seldom will be "perfect ".

Thanks for the tips and hints, Red Ant. I was actually considering voting for my own parodies, but I would rather not as i prefer to see what others think of my parody. But, if i had to vote, i'd probably give this 544.

A good parody managing to sum up how many feel on the way to ALlon Towers
Dumb Ass Kid - April 01, 2005 - Report this comment
Thank you Karen. You know, considering this parody's about a British theme park, it's been quite popular despite most AmIRighters being American...
