The Lyrics

I'm surprised someone on here hasn't done this yet. I know MadTV kind of hit this a little bit (in their spoof called "Posin'"), but not all the way, so I did it. Also, in the first half of the second verse- anything not in quotes is the main character talking, the ones in quotes is his friend Doug (don't ask why that name, it just fit). Original Song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rdmfVyPrqcc
Hands in now hands out
Legs in now back out
Back up back up
Spin around in a circle now

Hips in now hips out
Butt in now back out
Back up back up
Tell me what it’s all about now

The hokey pokey, hokey pokey
The hokey pokey, hokey pokey
The hokey pokey, hokey pokey
The hokey pokey, hokey pokey

Now everyone get in a circle right here
Everyone must keep the dance floor clear
We’re gonna do this, even if you don’t care
No Electric Slide, no musical chairs
All you guys, go on- get your chicks
For this awesome mix all for Doug’s twenty-sixth
So where the heck you at Doug?
Come on, step up
“Dude, shut the heck up
the hokey pokey is dumb!”
(Pfft...whatever Doug)

Hands in now hands out
Legs in now back out
Back up back up
Spin around in a circle now

Hips in now hips out
Butt in now back out
Back up back up
Tell me what it’s all about now

The hokey pokey, hokey pokey
The hokey pokey, hokey pokey
The hokey pokey, hokey pokey
The hokey pokey, hokey pokey

You wanna come do the pokey?- (“Nah”)
Don’t wanna do the pokey? Why?
“Because this song is dumb” (Huh?)
“Didn’t like it when I was five”- (Oh)
But this awesome song right here- (“Mmhmm”)
I’m just gonna play it all night- (“Wha?”)
So you better circle on up
Cause its Hokey Pokey time- (“Doh!”)

You all are painin’
But stop complainin’
24/7, I won’t take it off the playlist
Birthday parties,
Weddings blast this hot hit
This smash hit
Dance along, I won’t stop it
(Put your hands in)

Hands in now hands out
Legs in now back out
Back up back up
Spin around in a circle now

Hips in now hips out
Butt in now back out
Back up back up
Tell me what it’s all about now

The hokey pokey, hokey pokey
The hokey pokey, hokey pokey
The hokey pokey, hokey pokey
The hokey pokey, hokey pokey

Hey ladies, hey fellas
And the people that think this is dumb
All the young’ns, all the haters
Man all these people, is there nothing greater?
Grandmamas, granddaddies
Bustin’ moves, spinnin’ ‘round for the pokey
Teen boppers, young toddlers
And everybody all around the world

Hands in now hands out
Legs in now back out
Back up back up
Spin around in a circle now

Hips in now hips out
Butt in now back out
Back up back up
Tell me what it’s all about now

The hokey pokey, hokey pokey
The hokey pokey, hokey pokey
The hokey pokey, hokey pokey
The hokey pokey, hokey pokey

Hands in now hands out
Legs in now back out
Back up back up
Spin around in a circle now

Hips in now hips out
Butt in now back out
Back up back up
Tell me what it’s all about now

The hokey pokey, hokey pokey
The hokey pokey, hokey pokey
The hokey pokey, hokey pokey
The hokey pokey, hokey pokey

(ABC) The topic fit the OS like a glove. Great write here man! A few pacing snags, but still very good!

(Abc) I love the juxtaposing innocent concepts on songs with nasty lyrics. That being said, though, the idea ran its course pretty quickly with lots of repeated choruses and a bit too much lifting of the OS lyrics. Still it makes kind of a fun companion piece to your "Cookie Jar" parody I read last month.

(ABC) Great idea, pulled off brilliantly! Easily my second favourite re-imagining of the Hokey Pokey (Bill Bailey's Kraftwerk-styled take wins, sorry). 555!

I have to say that I had a good bit of trouble pacing this one. . .not just a little, I mean I had trouble following it. I have seen/heard the Mad TV parody a number of times, one of my favorite by them actually next to Whatever/Don't Matter or their Britney Spears take of I'm Not A Girl Not Yet A Woman (which she still lives up to). . .I don't know, I like the idea but for me I just couldn't get it to work

I can't believe we were both inspired by Mad TV for this round. The only reason I know of the Shakira song I parodied was because of Mad TV. I can't believe they canceled it. Was such a great show. Very interesting idea but could have used a little help to really blow me away.
