The Lyrics

(The Ballad of the American Worker) Dedicated to the thousands of hard working people across the United States who have fallen victim to the NAFTA and CAFTA agreements. This is my story.
Let me tell ya'll a story 'bout a job that I had,
at a small company and it really wasn't bad.
We were bought by some foreigner who was a big tycoon-
Little did we know that our job was ending soon.

Well they promised us a deal with more benefits and pay;
We all cried "Halleujah" they've come to save the day.
So we worked real hard and we followed all the rules,
Now we all feel like bumblin' fools.
JOBLESS THAT IS---UNEMPLOYED

Bossman said we won't go down without a fight,
If we wanna keep our jobs - then we've gotta do it right;
So we worked night and day - gave it everything we had,
All that we got was tired and mad.

Well they called us all together for a meeting one day.
They said "good news" we're gonna send you home with pay.
With that came the words that brought us to our knees-
We're taking all your jobs and we're movin overseas.
OFFSHORE THAT IS----CHEAP LABOR

Well, needless to say we all stood there in shock.
What will we do if we can't punch the clock?
Now w're drawin' unemployment every day-
Come to find out -Its The American Way.
Gotta get up-----Go to the mailbox----Get my check----
Go to Wal-Mart...........
Ya'll come back now, ya hear.

Unfortunately it's also become The British Way too.... still worth a big triple 5 though :^)

Very well done, Melody. It is unfortunate that thousands of hard working people lose their jobs, even as millions of consumers benefit from NAFTA and CAFTA. If your job skills are as strong as your parody skills, I suspect that you well be well employed in the very near future.

Very well said, Melody, in a way in which we actually see it happening, like in a movie or play! Alas, though, it is all too real. Other people over 50 have trouble getting fair consideration for many jobs in which money and benefits - not experience, is the bottom line. Where is America going with all this?
