The Lyrics

If you aren't familiar with the story behind this little fiasco, ASCAP a music protection site has brought to the attention of local parodist Below Average Dave that the song parody recordings on his site violate the rites of the artists they they represent (Katy Perry for example). While we all know that song parody recordings fall under the fair use doctrine they don't seem to realize that and thus has been shut down for the time being all because ASCAP (Ass-Crap) doesn't know about that court case with 2 Live Crew and thus we have been screwed...
I like laughter is that so bad?
Past comprehension
News that Dave spoke made me mad
Felt their oppression
It doesn’t… break a law
To record funny songs
I’m furious, I’d sue
Signed the petition!!!

I once had fun, but they killed it
Whose next Weird Al Yankovic?!
I spoofed a song and they banned it
Treating artists like convicts!
They’ll wreck the Frump
And Amiright
Destroyed those jokes that we write!
I spoofed a song and they banned it
They banned it!!!

Known that I will never get fame
I’m not a singer
Copyright laws that you proclaim
For bands like Winger
Said “F*ck off! It’s fair use!”
Weird Al’s on the airwaves
Court case with 2 Live Crew
Proved that we’re safe!

I spoofed a song and they banned it
Those worthless “Ass-Crap” bastards!
When I mock tunes they deny it
You must pay cash they’ve decided
Facts they got wrong
When spitting spite
Is Cledus T Judd in fright?
I spoofed a song and they banned it
They banned it!!!

Parodists are not criminals
Prison for quips (Miserable!)
I got so pissed they’re full of bull
Their data’s misguided
They’ll send to jail Bob Rivers next

I spoofed a song and they banned it!
A waste of our comic slapstick
Wrote “Stacy’s Thong” they slapped my wrist
Fountains of Wayne’s on their list
Our hits are flogged
Dimwits aren’t bright
This is they day music died
I sang a song and they hushed it!
That’s rubbish

"This is they day music died" should be "This is the day music died"

One slight slap for using a line from my parody (day music died) but other than that well written, and overall funny. The FUMP is behind me 100% on this, and they are preparing in case ASCAP asks them for money next, I just hope ASCAP doesn't try to make me pay for a license because my site had music on it--since I did take it all down.

Yeah, when I channel Don McLean randomly in my head, I mean, American Pie really came to mind over what they are doing (Ironically, Don McLean is ALSO an ASCAP artist) so yeah, I can understand why, that line was perfect for the situation, which is where it hit me
