The Lyrics

As unbelievable as it sounds, from 1930 forward there was a school established in Germany to teach dogs to speak, count, and reason. It was the Hundesprechschule Asra located in Thuringia and operated by a woman- Margarethe Schmidt . She had put on shows during the early Nazi years and Hitler took an interest. So, the SS took many of the dogs and taught them how to count through paw-tapping and also supposedly taught then single-syllable code words that would enable them to perform surveillence and then report to a soldier or the Gestapo!!! Dogs were also taught to communicate through electric-bell signals. Although work began in the 1930s, the SS took over in the '40s and by 1944 the dogs could tell the time, describe people, and correct misspellings. Many had got the code-tapping down and could say single words. It is rumored that the SS used a few in concentration camps but with the war situation being so bad, the school was closed in 1945. It should be noted that the school stopped receiving funds for training b/c Margarethe Schmidt was not paying taxes nor doing any scientific work. The SS experiments from dogs taken from there are seperate and were fully funded. The German Army used dogs in Russia against tanks and also in N Africa as sniper scouts as well as patrol dogs, concentration camp dogs, and anti-partisan dogs!
Talking dogs- a strange find
What goes through the canine mind?
Think of all the progress they had made
If you think this was unreal
For the Nazis- had appeal
At Asra so many breeds had been trained!

They used mil-codes with their dogs through barking
Taught counting, reasoning
SS tried electric-bell signaling
Some luck with speech!

Dogs were taught to remember
SS by their side
Applications were new
Dogs were taught to remember
It was quite a sight
Wehrmacht used very few

Applications were new
Wehrmacht used very few

Taught mil-codes really fast
Were given each a certain task
Largely, surveillance was the way to go
Single syllable words to talk
Training course the dogs would walk
Then were encouraged to tell what they did know

They used mil-codes with their dogs through barking
Taught counting, reasoning
SS tried electric-bell signaling
Some luck with speech!

Dogs were taught to remember
SS by their side
Applications were new
Dogs were taught to remember
It was quite a sight
Wehrmacht used very few

News of talking dogs was strange revelation
British thought they were crazy
Strange, YES… but it was true!
SS had thought of all applications
Even telepathy!!!
In secrecy…

Dogs were taught to remember
SS by their side
Applications were new
Dogs were taught to remember
It was quite a sight
Wehrmacht used very few

Dogs were taught to remember
SS by their side
Applications were new
Dogs were taught to remember
It was quite a sight
What dogs could do

Dogs were taught to remember
SS by their side
Applications were new
Dogs were taught to remember
It was quite a sight
What dogs could do

Applications were new
Wehrmacht used very few
SS worked with dogs throughout the war, even having them with them in AFVs!!! http://blog.netgamix.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/dogss.jpg

That was interesting!

Nothing the Nazis or SS did in WW2 surprises me anymore. Almost anything sounding ridiculous or impossible- they tried it! Add this to the chocolate bar explosive grenade, the D.IX wonder drug, the V-5 weapon, resurrection technology, the electronic vampire system, and so on... next on the list are Monsun U-boats!!!
