This is from the alternate-lyric version of "Don't Cry", as featured in Part II (a.k.a. the "blue album) of GNR's "Use Your Illusion" double album (the original lyric version is in Part I - the "red" album). I apparently got the blue album first; when I heard this song (mistaking it for the original!), the above misheard line was what I heard Axl sang sounded like.
